Listen to the sound bite below to help you identify their call.
You will have to be patient!

Watch as flowers start bursting into life!

All around you, signs of spring are starting to appear, may it be in your garden, a window flower box or even on your daily walk.

A fun activity for the kids is to get them out in the garden to take pictures of the different flowers they see. When they’re done, grab the nearest gardening book or hop on to the computer and find out which ones they have found.

You can also have a look and see which insects feed from them!

See if you can spot any of the flowers in the image above

Watch out for badger cubs

At this time of the year and although still very young, badger cubs will start to make their first appearances above ground.

Keep an eye out in your garden or whilst out on your daily walk – but remember to keep your distance, as mum won’t be far away foraging for food!

Create a safe watering spot for insects

Insects get thirsty too, and here’s a great idea as to how you can help!

  • Grab a shallow dish – this can be anything from a bowl in your kitchen, to a plastic pot headed for the recycling. A clean, empty mushroom tub or sausage tray would work perfectly.
  • Fill with different sized marbles or similar sized stones – this creates a platform for the insects to sit on whilst drinking.
  • Find a level spot to place your drinking station
  • Finally – Fill it two thirds of they way with fresh tap water.

Step back and watch to see which insects visit!
