Buy recycled toilet paper!

Loo roll is currently in short supply at our local supermarkets. However, have you ever stopped to think about how much energy is used, and pollution created to make them?

If you were to swap your usual, new toilet rolls, to the same recycled version, you could help save;

  • 400 million trees
  • 660 million tons of water
  • 45 million tons of oil

Its easy to make the swap, so, next time you manage to get to the shops, think twice before you make your selection.

Sow pumpkin seeds for Halloween

Why not try growing your very own pumpkin for halloween this year?!

Spring is the perfect time of year to sow your pumpkin seeds.Follow the steps below:

  1. Place the seeds on their side, 1cm deep, in a 8cm pot of compost.
  2. Keep the compost well watered and in a sunny spot.
  3. In May, move your seedlings in to a colder spot, ready for moving outside.
  4. After a week, plant your seedlings outside.
  5. Make sure you water regularly. Try cutting the bottom off of a used plastic bottle and place upside down, lid removed, in to the soil next to the plant. This will allow the water to reach the roots.
  6. Feed with natural fertiliser every 10-14 days.
  7. Once your fruit starts to grow, make sure they sit off the ground on a tile or piece of glass.

Wait for the harvest!

Regularly clean out & move bird feeders

Bird feeders are one of the small ways in which everyone can help their local wildlife. however, its very important to keep them clean to prevent the spread of diseases.

Simply pop on a pair of rubber gloves and give your feeders a scrub using a mild detergent. After rinsing them thoroughly, make sure you let them dry out naturally before refilling and hanging up.
