I saved an old unit from landfill

I upcycled an old unit that was destined for the dump. I used scraps of wallpaper with mod podge and paint to give it new life.

So much of our waste ends up in landfill, contaminating the soil or shipped off to other countries so repurposing the unit meant one less usable item thrown away carelessly.

Once it’s no longer fit for purpose I’ll upcycle it into something else like a birdhouse.

Store your leftovers in glass containers

Plastic production is one of the largest contributors towards pollution across the entire globe! From air, land and sea, there is no excape from the damage it is creating.

We urgently need to stop the demand of single use plastics, if we are to have any chance of saving our planet. You can help make a start by swapping out your plastic food containers for glass ones instead. Have a look in cupboards around the house and see what other items can be replaced with alternative, environmentally friendly materials!

We’d love to know how you get on, so, why not add your iDot!

I saved toilet roll inners for planting seeds

To save on buying plastic pots I saved up all our toilet roll inners to use to start my vegetable seedlings this year!  I got my family to save theirs too and I will repay them with vegetables later in the year.

Pick up some litter

Litter can be dangerous to our wildlife, picking up even one piece can make a difference.  We picked up this discarded plastic windscreen wiper cover while out on a walk.

Turn off the tap whilst brushing your teeth!

iDot inspiration: Turn off the bathroom tap whilst brushing your teeth.

By turning the tap off whilst you brush, you can save up to 6 litres of water per minute – that’s roughly 48 glasses of water, in just 2 minutes!

iHelped save a pigeon from fishing wire whilst on holiday

Whilst away in the Canary Islands, myself and two others spotted one of the pigeons being fed, had wire wrapped tightly around its feet!

We managed to attract it with crumbs, just close enough to grab it and remove the wire with nail clippers.

Hopefully it will now live a long and happy life.

Pick up a piece of litter and dispose of it responsibly

Far too often, our British wildlife is being injured by rubbish that is cast aside by people. If you see a piece of litter on the street as you are out walking, pick it up and pop it in the nearest bin.
